Fuji Japanese Steakhouse-Hibachi-Sushi-Lava Bar, in Gambrills, MD, is a fabulous experience to share with a group of friends or family. The restaurant has several offerings, from sushi to steak to shrimp tempura, and various vegan dishes. Check out their menu; it’s extensive. However, since I came for the hibachi, that’s what I’m highlighting.
Fun fact: Hibachi is a Japanese word that literally means fire bowl. It was usually a cylindrical open-topped pot where charcoal was placed and ignited in order to heat up a room.

Atmosphere
Entering the hibachi area of the restaurant, you’ll notice it’s a pretty large and dark room, but the light pours in from the wall-to-wall windows. Something else, you’ll notice immediately is the slew of large grills. At least 20 people can be seated comfortably around the grill and watch the hibachi chefs go to work.
Half the fun is watching the artistry of the chefs. The knives are super sharp, and the chefs know how to work them. They also know how to work their audience… they are very interactive and entertaining. There’s even an opportunity to get shrimp tossed in your mouth, but only if you’re up for it!
Yes, it’s that’s kind of good time!
The Food

I started my meal with Miso soup, which is a soybean soup with bean curd. My soup was chocked full of mushrooms. Awesome! The Miso was flavorful, fresh, and just the right way to ease into my environment.
The restaurant offers a wide range of items for your Hibachi experience including filet mignon, scallops, lobster, shrimp chicken and more.
I ordered the lobster and shrimp combination. I had a good amount of shrimp; the lobster was good, but not quite as plentiful. That’s just an observation because you have to set your expectations.
Lobster is always more expensive so for the price of the meal, it’s probably fair.
Hibachi
Okay, enough finance…let’s talk about the hibachi.
Your choice of add-ons come grilled with Lo Mein. It’s definitely plenteous and satisfying; however, the plot thickens. As if you don’t have enough to handle, you also receive a bowl of rice, either white or fried. You’re not leaving here saying you’re still hungry. It’s NOT happening!

Just a little aside…I love the fire rising as the chef preps the grill. Respect to them…they are pros.
Fuji Japanese Steakhouse-Hibachi-Sushi-Lava Bar is a fun change of pace for those of us who aren’t used to fires rising from a grill or shrimp tosses. It’s definitely an enjoyable time for everyone, and the thrills come with the price of admission.
