Don’t waffle…try Waffle-Licious (Bubble Waffles)

Imagine a hot November day…yep, you read that right. It was almost 80 degrees in early November. So it was the perfect time to get some ice cream. So why didn’t I go down the street to the Cold Stone Creamery? After all, it is a totally legitimate choice. Well, I happened upon this Instagram Reel that pointed me in another direction…downtown to Baltimore’s Little Italy to try a cute little corner ice cream shop called Waffle-Licious

Oh, what a delight to see this very unique artisan way of making hot homemade egg waffles on the spot. I hesitate to say waffle cone because you may get visions of the usual dry textured waffle cones. Don’t get me wrong I love those, but this is a straight-up waffle, which is then shaped to the beautiful branded paper cone that holds it.

I did a little homework before I came, and found out about these very beautiful bubble waffles. In Hong King, it is very popular as a stand-alone street food snack.

The waffles are made in a deeply creviced multi-bubble shaped waffle iron chamber. Once it’s done cooking, it is shaped and molded into the cone. Now remember, these are bubbly waffles like the bubbles from your favorite stress deflating plastic wrap. Think about how a little pressure can bring collapse, so there is a skill to this fragile art.

Another intriguing aspect of Waffle-Licious is the fillings that can be added to the waffle batter. Then there are your toppings for the ice cream. Oh, the choices!

Fillings for the batter

Coconut flakes
Pistachios
Chocolate chips (white or milk)
M&Ms
Snickers
Sprinkles (Chocolate or Rainbow)
Peanuts
Walnuts
Almonds
Oreos
Reese’s Pieces

Talking to the very gracious and informative gentleman behind the counter, he informed me that Waffle-Licious uses the Chinese street food approach to the waffle, but the ice cream, well that’s the American side of things. And the shop doesn’t play around with their ice creams. It is local and farm-made. And don’t you sweat it one eensy, teensy little bit because the ice cream choices are abundant, and the toppings run the gamut from simplistic to exquisite.

In addition to the array of options for your custom-picked ice creams, waffles, and toppings; they also offer their own menu of specialty Waffle-Licious treats. I was drawn to their “Dark Side” ice cream option. It’s the chocolate waffle with their Chocolate Love ice cream, Snickers, Oreos, pearls, chocolate syrup and even more decadent chocolate choices. For a twist I added a few white chocolate chips. I definitely had my happy dance going.

Enjoying the dark side…only the ice cream, people!😆

Waffle-Licious is not a one-trick pony, they also serve shakes, specialty coffees, ice cream with a shot of espresso, among other things. Oh, and of course, we can’t forget one of the best beverages of all time…hot chocolate!

Now, MCCN readers, are you telling me you are not the least bit curious?
